Throughout her life Misaki has shown many attributes of an Aries. Several of her personality traits tie in together, making her a leader among her peers. She is a determined young woman who is willing to take initiative if there is something she wants and she will persist in her pursuit with the utmost focus until she obtains it. To others she may come off as brash, not always thinking her actions through, forceful, selfish, and bossy. When she speaks she is very direct, to the point that her words can come off as insensitive, and there are times when she will not listen to others because she believes that she knows what is best. However, Misaki is a good person underneath it all who will defend others who she considers weaker and would risk herself for her friends. She simply does not understand how to express herself at times.

Suitability: Even at the canon age of seventeen Misaki has shown maturity that many others are not capable of. She has been seen to carry herself with confidence, displaying an ease and comfort in her own body despite a traumatic past, and has shown courage even in the most frightful of times. While she has had her brash moments, leading both herself and her friend Madoka into danger in order to chase after a girl in a vision, she has also shown great intelligence by rationalizing to Madoka that, without confronting their past and learning the truth, they will die just like their friends. Throughout the game Misaki can be seen displaying a level-headedness that her friends sometimes lack and also can be seen moving forward, even after realizing her friend Madoka has been killed by spirits and that her own illness has only progressed throughout their visit to the island.
It is this ability to rationalize that would help her to properly adjust in Zodion. Misaki’s nature is that of one who is willing to adapt in order to survive and, as soon as she picked up on the nature of ‘worship’ and the cycles she would quickly give in to her fate. Since she is a logical person most of the time she would be able to quickly rationalize what is needed to adapt and survive in this new world. Since Misaki will be taken from the end of the game, after the credits where she has her closure with the spirit of Madoka, her mental illness is now gone and her memories have returned.
Power: Misaki has a strengthened sixth sense. What this means is that she experiences ‘feelings’, a sort of heightened intuition. In canon it is this sixth sense that helps alert her when there are ghosts or important items around. While she does have other powers in canon I will only be keeping her heightened awareness and she will also have the Aries power Calling Flame.
Personality: Throughout the canon of Fatal Frame IV Misaki is presented as an insensitive, stubborn, bossy young woman who thinks only of herself and acts of her own volition. Even in the official game guide Misaki is described as “a strong-willed girl who has to have her way”. While this is true it is only the surface of Misaki as a character. In actuality she is a driven, logical, confident young woman who tends to be blunt when speaking, to the point where it is often construed as insensitive and her nature can appear cold. Like many characters of anime and video game fashion Misaki really does care, she simply hides it behind a controlled mask so others cannot see her weakness. After all, as a child it was the willful Misaki who saved Madoka from the possibly deadly bullying of another girl, earning her much gratitude which would later translate to Madoka staying by Misaki’s side until death. Later on, when Misaki upsets Madoka with the blunt ‘do you want to die like our friends’ question, and Madoka yells for her to stop, Misaki drops the subject without comment, choosing to roll her eyes instead. This action seems to go against her nature of refusing to listen to others so it shows that she may be more considerate where her friend is concerned.
While Misaki is very determined, she has a tendency to suffer from tunnel vision when it comes to something that she wants or needs. When she starts to display symptoms of her former illness, Getsuyuu Syndrome, and she starts seeing visions of a girl in black telling her to return to the hospital she once stayed at as a child, Misaki sets off on a mission to recover her lost memories and possibly find a cure for the illness, dragging Madoka along for company. This is a selfish move which ultimately leads to Madoka’s death.
Shortly after their arrival on the island Misaki goes into a trance-like state and wanders off, becoming separated from Madoka. As soon as she becomes aware of her surroundings she starts looking for information regarding their former illness and past events, going through with her previous plan despite the disappearance of her friend. It is not until she hears Madoka’s scared voice through a speaker in the nurses’ office that she diverges from her mission, pushing her own wants aside in order to attempt to save her friend. Unfortunately she is too late and she has to face the hostile spirit of Madoka. All that is left afterward is a note which explains that while Madoka knew she was only a replacement for somebody Misaki lost as a child, she was secretly happy whenever she thought about how it was her at Misaki’s side and not the other person. The note also expresses how Madoka wishes Misaki would only see her and forget about the other person.
It is then that Misaki shows just how logical, and slightly cold, she can be. Misaki has the ability to rationalize anything in order to bypass the cognitive dissidence she experiences. She continues on with her mission without hesitation, gathering clues to piece together her past and slowly learning more about the illness which she is afflicted with. Like a woman possessed Misaki goes through the story showing her courage in the face of ghosts, the realization that she had been experimented on as a child, and even the knowledge that the ‘person’ Madoka spoke of in her note, and the girl in black that lured her to the hospital, was actually a doll which Misaki had kept close in order to maintain her connection to reality, her sense of self, and her memories. Misaki shows few emotions, and even those she shows, are muted. At the beginning when she is scared by her distorted face in the mirror, and then the vision of a girl in black, she does not break down but only gasps and asks who the girl is. When she is scared by a hostile ghost falling on her shoulders, she throws the ghost off, stumbles forward, and turns to fight with barely a second thought. After even the scariest encounters Misaki only takes a moment to catch her breath, her hand clasping at her chest, before moving on with determination. In the beginning conversation, when Madoka annoys Misaki, she shows her annoyance by rolling her eyes and, when annoyed by the Ayako ghost, she narrows her eyes to glare.
It is only once the end of her story comes that Misaki loses control of her emotions and the controlled mask falls to the ground. Upon finding the doll she had kept as a child, and remembering the woman who had given it to her, Misaki breaks down sobbing while holding the precious doll to her chest. She does not stop until the spirit of the woman who bestowed the doll upon her gives her a hug, somehow causing Misaki to fall to the ground unconscious.
The next time Misaki awakes the ghosts are being exorcised from the hospital and the friendly spirit of Madoka is standing in front of her. Misaki moves forward to say goodbye to Madoka, leaving the precious doll discarded on the ground. This is a possible sign that she has realized Madoka was more important than the doll and allowing both closure for Misaki and the ghost of Madoka before her friend could cross over to the other side.
